Jupiter
Jupiter with moons I Jupiter with his little volcano moon Io. The dark point is only his shadow, the moon itself is almost invisible on this picture. Io is responsible for the polar lights on Jupiter for it delivers the necessary ions. In March 1979 Voyager 1 discovered that Jupiter has also two very small rings which can be seen when sunlight illuminates them from behind.. |

Jupiter with moons II This shot was made by a probe. Sorry, but I don´t know which one. And to be honest, I don´t know too which moons can be seen in the foreground. :-) |

The Big Red Dot The Big Red Dot is a cyclone. The length is about 25.000 to 40.000 km, the width 14.500 km. The wind reaches velocity of more than 350 km/h. The shot was made by Voyager 1 in 1979. |

his moons
Ganymed Ganymed is covered with craters. The white fields consist of ice. |
|
Kallisto Kallisto´s surface is covered with craters too, this may mean that the moon is geologically dead since about 4 billion years. No moon in the solar system has as similar density of impacts. The concentric circles in the middle of the pictures are caused by one very powerful impact. |
