Saturn
Saturn I An amateur picture of Saturn. The planet can be seen that way without any telescope just with a simple camera. |
Saturn II The little bright dot is one of Saturn´s satellites, Tethys. |
Saturn III The colours on this shot are not the true ones, here Saturn is seen through some filters (green, violet and ultraviolet). It reveals the structure of the planet´s clouds. The atmosphere is very turbular, at the equator the wind reaches velocity up to 1.800 km/h. |
Saturn Rings I This picture was taken by Voyager 1. You can see the shadow of the rings fall on the planet. |
Saturn Rings II The Saturn Rings in detail. The colours are not true but increased. The rings consist of different kind of particles and are the most impressive ones in our solar system. Uranus has fine rings too and at least another of the outer planets but they are not as beatiful as Saturn´s. |
his moons
Dione The moon´s surface is covered with craters and stripes of ice. |
Enceladus Some parts of Enceladus´ surface are flat, some are covered with range of hills or craters. |
Mimas Mimas has a remarkable crater. Its diameter is a third of the moon´s diameter. The wall surrounding it is about 10 km high, the peak in the middle is 1.000 m higher than the Mount Everest. |
Hyperion This little satellite may be a fragment of a broken larger moon. |
Iapetus This moon consists of bright ice and dark material. |
